So, since I’m a baseball idiot and don’t care about numbers and such, I have to have my baseball-loving friends explain stuff to me sometimes.

Like today, I asked my buddy John to explain how the Wild Card stuff works. And more to the point, do the Jays have even the slimmest chance of getting into the playoffs?

He explained it to me and the harsh reality is not only “No,” but “No, not ever” unless there’s a division realignment. He didn’t say that, but that’s my dramatic, emo interpretation of his explanation.

On the one hand, that sucks because in another division with more realistic (aka haven’t sold their souls to the devil) opponents, the Jays would easily be at the top or at least in WC position.

On the other hand, this means the Jays will never interfere with hockey season. So, I guess that’s something.
